There are many alternative materials to plastic, right?
There are no products that do not have an impact on the environment. All are subject to extraction, production, transport and disposal. Swithing from plastic to cardboard would require seven times as many lorries on the road as at present, with a corresponding increase in CO2 emissions into the environment.
For some sectors in particular, such as the food and biomedical industries, the use of alternative materials is not possible because they could retain and transmit bacteria, germs and harmful substances, which can be avoided with plastics.
