The characteristics of compostable bags

Plastisac produces compostable bags and shopping bags for the collection of organic waste, that is, bags conforming to regulation UNI EN 13432:2002 - which identifies the characteristics that articles and packaging must have in order to be considered biodegradable and compostable. The biodegradable and compostable bags can be used for the collection of organic waste or for all other situations that require products and packaging that must be disposed of in the environment. They are designed and made according to regulation, which identifies the following characteristics:

• They degrade by at least 90% in 6 months if in environments rich in carbon dioxide
• If they are in contact with organic matter for 3 months, at least 90% of the mass of the material must be constituted by fragments smaller than 2 mm
• They must not negatively influence composting, and have a low concentration of heavy metal additives
• The pH level, salt content, concentration of volatile solids and nitrogen, phosphorous, magnesium and potassium must return to the correct values.
